This week MSN stated its intention to join the recently formed Open Content Alliance (OCA) and that they intend to provide OCA relevant content search with MSN search [1].
To me it is not yet plain clear what licensing OCA will apply to the content. As Brewster Kahle states, it is intended to use public domain material where possible. He continues:
When we are dealing with in-copyright materials, the Internet Archive has been leveraging the creative commons licenses to great effect.
That sounds like a promising direction [2].
